Message from the Chairperson

Dear Fellow Designee:

Fall is officially here and we are hopeful that clear skies will prevail across our country. Our "official fall activity" is our NAEPC Advanced Estate Planning Strategies Conference! Please join us on November 15-17th in "The Big Easy!" We are so excited to be returning to New Orleans ten years after our last visit and hope you will choose to attend. Registration is still open; register by October 31st to avoid the late fee!

If you haven't already noticed, NAEPC's website has a new sleek look! The new website is much more intuitive with easy navigation, offers AEP® designees and easy-to-find log in at the upper right of the page, and will make sure that everything you need is just a click of a mouse away. Take a look today!

We are very excited to let you know that The American College, in partnership with NAEPC, is sharing the message of the AEP® designation with qualified candidates who hold one or more of the designations the college administers that are gateway credentials for the AEP® designation. We anticipate that this will have a positive impact on the overall number of designees in the coming months by sharing information about the designation with those who may have an interest in learning more. Should you know a qualified candidate, please share details about the AEP® designation program with them or direct them to our national office.

Best wishes,

Julie Buschman

This month we are pleased to feature:

Does an Estate Tax Repeal Really Matter? (PDF format)
Provided by Eido Walny, JD, AEP®, EPLS and Elizabeth B. Taylor, JD, CLU®, CFP®.

President Trump's platform of tax reform includes repeal of the "death tax." What exactly that means in terms of the details is anyone's guess. There are lots of unknowns: Will the gift tax be changed or repealed? What will happen to basis at death? What about state estate taxes based on the federal tax? For nearly a year now, political commentators have been talking about expected tax reform, and with it, change in the estate tax.
