Message from the Chairperson
Julie A. Buschman, CPA, AEP®
Bessemer Trust Company, N.A.
Dear Fellow Designees:
As we're winding up the first quarter of the 2016 and preparing for tax
season, I am reminded of the importance of working collaboratively with our
peers to ensure the best possible outcome for our mutual clients. By earning the
AEP® designation, you have confirmed your commitment to the team concept of
estate planning. Let us help you put this commitment into action within your
practice.
If you have not already done so, please take some time to read the
white
paper created by the NAEPC Multi-Disciplinary Teaming Committee. The purpose of
this paper is to offer guidance on collaboration and encourage
multi-disciplinary professionals who are part of an estate planning team to
incorporate collaboration more deliberately into everyday practice. Hopefully,
the team effort which resulted in the creation of this white paper will provide
you with some practical guidance on how to work more collaboratively in service
to your clients. Please share this paper with your colleagues!
Another key component of providing the best possible advice and guidance to
our clients is active and ongoing participation in quality professional
education. We offer accessible, high quality, multi-disciplinary programs
through the Robert G. Alexander Webinar Series, which is now available on an
annual subscription basis. As an AEP® designee, you enjoy the deepest discount
that we offer and all programs qualify for the estate planning portion of your
continuing education requirement to maintain your designation in active status.
Programs are available live and on-demand so not to worry if you miss one! Live
programs typically take place on the second Wednesday of each month at 3:00 pm
ET.
Furthermore, it's not too early to begin planning for our signature
educational event—the 53rd Annual NAEPC Advanced Estate Planning Strategies
Conference—where you can earn one full year of the AEP® continuing education
requirement and enjoy a private session designed just for you! As important is
the opportunity for professional networking in a beautiful desert setting at The
Wigwam in the Phoenix area.
In closing, please think about the qualified professionals with whom you work
and consider encouraging them to join us by becoming an AEP® designee. We value
your referrals and welcome their participation.
Thank you for your continuing commitment to our designation program in
service to our mission.

Grantor Trusts - Third Party and Grantor Debt: What Are the Effects During
Life and At and After Death?
Jonathan G. Blattmachr, Esq., AEP® (Distinguished)
This intermediate to advanced presentation will cover the fundamental
treatment of grantor trusts including transactions with the grantor, the
grantor's spouse, or a grantor trust created by either of them as well as
transactions with third parties. It will discuss some of the effects of these
transactions when grantor trust status ends, either during the grantor's
lifetime or upon and by reason of the grantor's death. Knowing the consequences
can help in planning and in avoiding adverse tax consequences.
Jonathan G. Blattmachr is director of estate planning for the Alaska Trust
Company and a director of Pioneer Wealth Partners, LLC, a boutique wealth
advisor firm in Manhattan. He is a retired member of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley &
McCloy and of the New York and California bars. He is the author or co-author of
eight books and over 500 articles, and has been chair of several committees of
the New York and American Bar Associations and the American College of Trust and
Estate Counsel.

Everything But the House
Everything But The House (EBTH) is an estate sale marketplace with a large
network of bidders that helps sellers maximize the value of their belongings.
EBTH's full service model - organizing, photography, cataloging, and logistics—makes the estate sale, downsizing or liquidating process easy. It is also
incredibly worthwhile in that proceeds are typically 3-5 times higher than a
traditional estate sale. EBTH combines high-touch customer service with the
reach of an e-commerce site, while helping families and attorneys across the
United States deal with the difficulties of estate settlement.
NAEPC members that refer their clients to our special NAEPC URL, will ensure
that their clients receive a $100 rebate in the form of an EBTH gift card at the
conclusion of a successful qualified estate sale through EBTH ($10,000.00 in
value and above). This offer also applies to NAEPC members who require help
downsizing or liquidating their possessions during any transitional phase in
their lives. Please visit www.ebth.us/naepc to
complete our consultation request form, and one of our wonderful representatives
will contact the person whose information was provided.
