February 2011 Issue Now Available

Message from the President

Schonbraun McCann Group

Dear Colleagues,

What a start to 2011 this has been! New legislation, a winter season for the record books, and exciting activities and new beginnings for NAEPC and The NAEPC Foundation!

NAEPC continues to grow with the addition of newly affiliated councils and designees through the first two months of the year. The board is working diligently to expand the offerings to both councils and designees, and will soon be adding many new benefits to the list. If not already taken care of, all active designees are encouraged to return their annual dues and recertification forms in a timely manner. Additionally, council dues notices have been mailed. Please take a moment to return those documents, along with an officer update.

The NAEPC Foundation is experiencing continued vitalization through several new initiatives, as well as the development of existing programs. You will read more about new educational offerings within this newsletter. I encourage all reading this report to begin thinking about how best to promote National Estate Planning Awareness Week 2011 within your own practice, and encourage you to direct clients, colleagues and friends to www.estateplanninganswers.org.

The NAEPC Foundation is a growing organization that needs your support. Formed in 2005 with the purpose of enhancing the educational process for all members of the estate planning team, and for the general public those practitioners serve, there are a number of large projects on the table. The development of our public resource, www.estateplanninganswers.org, new webinar programs and national promotion of National Estate Planning Awareness Week, just to name a few. We need your help to complete these projects and ask for assistance in two ways. First, please consider getting involved on a committee of The NAEPC Foundation. Second, please think about making a monetary contribution to further the many projects at hand.

Finally, the 48th Annual Conference of NAEPC / The NAEPC Foundation is scheduled for November 16-18, 2011 in San Antonio. While the final schedule has not been announced, I can tell you that the preliminary line up of speakers (found below) is comprised of the best national talent you’ll find anywhere. The event offers nationwide continuing education credit for estate planning-related disciplines, an exciting companion and social program, as well as a networking opportunity that seems to be fading away in today’s digital world! I hope you will consider joining us, registration information will be posted on the website shortly.

        • to educate the public regarding the benefits of the multi-disciplinary team concept of estate planning as espoused by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils
        • to develop educational programs regarding estate planning for estate planning professionals
        • to develop and promote a community outreach program for the general public
        • to hold educational conferences, seminars, forums, and meetings regarding estate planning

2011 is gearing up to be a tremendous year for The NAEPC Foundation. Many exciting project and initiatives are planned, including:

Accredited Estate Planner® Designation Information

What an exciting time to be an AEP®!

During 2010, NAEPC awarded the AEP® designation to 141 new designees. That is the highest number added per year in the last 5 years. Also, we are almost up to 1,500 active AEP® designees, and 2011 is off to a great start with new applications during January that should put us on track to meet and exceed the record 2010 numbers.

There is no better time to be an AEP®. Designees are exclusively linked to the public education website so the general public is able to search the AEP® database to "Find An Estate Planner". Promotion of the designation is also being generated through the one of the US's best-known securities brokerage firm, Charles Schwab, and their alliance with the nation's largest association of seniors, AARP. New exposure to tens of thousands of individuals needing and seeking estate planning services is just around the corner.

We are just days away from having affordable, online education opportunities available to our AEP®'s through The NAEPC Foundation professional education website. Special discounts for active designees will apply for current educational topics via live and recorded webinars which will be available for AEP® credit. Many of our Distinguished Accredited Estate Planners who are members of NAEPC's Estate Planning Hall of Fame® are already calling to be part of the educational faculty. Those that are not a current designee, but wish to be eligible for the significant discounts, must make sure to submit an application today documenting the requisite education and experience requirements.

Finally, in the coming months, we will be publishing advertisements and articles in professional publications, increasing awareness and interest in obtaining the AEP® designation. As the public and other professionals are more aware of the specialized knowledge obtained by our designees, the demand for our members' services will grow.

We congratulate those new AEP® designees and celebrate with them their accomplishment:
