DONALD O. JANSEN
The University of Texas SystemDonald O.
Jansen is the only Hall of Fame honoree who received the
recognition actually and literally on his birthday and in
the city where he graduated from law school.
Mr. Jansen received his LL.M. from Georgetown University,
his JD (cum laude) from Loyola University New Orleans, and
his B.B.A. (magna cum laude) from Loyola University New
Orleans where he was elected to the Blue Key Honor Society
and Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society.
Mr. Jansen, Assistant General Counsel at The University
of Texas System, is a retired senior partner of Fulbright &
Jaworski (now Norton Rose Fulbright) who is a fellow of both
the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the
American College of Tax Counsel. Jansen, a specialist in
Estate Planning and Probate Law, is certified by the Texas
Board of Legal Specialization and is past Probate Editor of
the Newsletter of the Real Estate, Trust and Estate Law
Section.
He is a nationally recognized speaker of decades who has
authored or co-authored four booklets in the ABA Insurance
Counselor series and served as Chair of the Committee of
Significant Current Literature and Vice-Chair of the
Insurance Committee of the Real Property, Trust and Estate
Law Section. Jansen served on the Federal Bar Association
National Council and as president of the Houston Chapter.
Mr. Jansen is recognized as an Outstanding Eagle Scout by
the National Association of Eagle Scouts. He is an 11-year
member of the Advisory Committee at the University of Miami
Law School's Philip Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning,
where he has made 12 podium or panel presentations. His
peers voted Jansen a Texas Super Lawyer in estate planning.
A nationally recognized expert on life insurance in
estate and business planning, nonqualified deferred
compensation and charitable giving, Mr. Jansen has spoken at
prestigious venues including the Philip Heckerling Estate
Planning Institute, NYU Federal Tax Institute, ACTEC
meetings, Notre Dame Tax and Estate Planning Institute,
Tulane Tax institute, American Institute of CPA, Society of
Financial Service Professionals, Washington State Bar and
Seattle Estate Planning Council Estate Planning Conference,
National Association of Estate Planners & Councils,
Association of Advance Life Underwriting Annual meetings,
Southern Federal Tax Institute and numerous ABA, ALI/ABA,
ABA/CLE courses. Jansen has been a frequent speaker before
bar associations, estate planning councils and life
insurance professional groups.
A Vietnam-era Army captain who served in the JAG Corps,
Mr. Jansen has served as Chair of the City of Houston Ethics
Committee, President of Congressman Bill Archer's Student
Intern Foundation and member of Loyola University New
Orleans President's Council. He is a director of the D.C.
based American Women Writers National Museum, a non-profit
founded by his wife Hon. Janice Law who has served on the
county criminal court bench and is an award-winning
journalist and author.
