Donald Ray Haas,
CLU, ChFC, CFP® , RFC, MSFS
Registered Financial Gerontologist
Don Haas is president of Haas
Financial Services, Inc., a Registered Investment Adviser, and
Haas Financial Products, Inc., a Broker-Dealer, located in
Southfield, Mich. He is a financial consultant in practice
since 1956 and was recently cited by Worth magazine as
one of the "300 Best Financial Advisors in America."
Haas, who served on the Society
of Financial Service Professionals' National Board of
Directors from 1991 to 1993, also served as its Detroit
Chapter's president. He currently serves on the Board of
Advisors for the American Institute of Financial Gerontology.
He is a 30-year member of the Million Dollar Round Table and
has received the prestigious National Quality Award for 33
years. He has been an adjunct instructor in Financial Planning
at Lawrence Technological University and served on the CFP
Board of Practice Standards. He served on a Curriculum Review
Committee for Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based The American College and on
an Examination Review Committee for the CFP Board of
Standards.
Since 1986, Haas has authored a
monthly client newsletter, Money Monitor, and has
written two books, Financial Planning For The Baby Boomer
Client (1998) and Money Forever (2002). He is a
columnist for the National Association of Insurance and
Financial Advisors' magazine, Advisor Today, has
articles published in the Journal of the Society of
Financial Service Professionals, and served as author of
the bi-monthly newsletter, Financial Monitor, from 1990
to 1997 for the Society of Financial Service Professionals. In
1999, he hosted the weekly two-hour CBS radio show, "Financial
Fitness with Don Haas." He has also served as an expert
commentator on local Detroit Fox-TV.
Haas is an international
speaker on financial planning topics with special emphasis on
retirement and aging issues. In 2000, he presented workshops
across the United States, and in 2003 spoke to an audience of
over 2,000 at the Asia Pacific Life Insurance Congress in
Singapore where his message was positively received. He has
co-presented the popular workshop, "Health and Wealth",
with Dr. Fred Stransky. This workshop's theme involves how and
why to live a long time in relative good health, and how to
make your money last as long as you do.
Additionally, Don has spoken to
many professional associations including the American Society
on Aging, Million Dollar Round Table, Institute for
International Research, Financial and Estate Planning Council,
Financial Planning Association, National Association of
Insurance and Financial Advisors, International Association of
Registered Financial Consultants, and more than 20 chapters
around the country of the Society of Financial Services
Professionals, as well as at its National Conferences, video
teleconferences, and Keeping Current Clinics.
Haas was recognized for his
multitude of contributions to the financial planning industry
as the 2001 recipient of the Loren Dunton Award. Mr. Dunton is
known as the "father" of financial planning. In 2002, Haas was
inducted into the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame, and in 2003
became a Registered Financial Gerontologist.
After graduation from the
University of Michigan, Haas joined the trumpet section of the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for twenty
years. During most of those years, he developed his financial
planning career, and since retiring from the DSO in 1973, has
devoted his full time to the financial services profession. He
lives in Birmingham, Mich.
He holds a Bachelor of Music
degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Education
from Wayne State University and a Master of Science in
Financial Services from The American College. |
