Fred J. Dopheide

Fred J. Dopheide has enjoyed a long and
distinguished career in the life insurance field and his scholarly commitment to
excellence set a high continuing education standard for all insurance and
financial services professionals. Mr. Dopheide attended Wright Junior College in
Chicago and received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
After practicing law in Chicago, he entered the life insurance business as an
agent for the Metropolitan in Chicago, and was later affiliated with
Northwestern Mutual and Prudential life insurance companies. He earned his CLU®
designation in 1957, attained ChFC® status in 1983, and earned a master's degree
in financial services (MSFS) from The American College, Bryn Mawr, in 1988. He
was Vice-President of Continuing Education for the American Society of CLU and
The American College; editor of the Keeping Current quarterly tape
series; and a frequent lecturer appearing before many national professional
organizations. He was a prolific writer and his articles have appeared in
Estate Planners Quarterly , Trusts and Estates, and the Journal of
Taxation, to name a few; and he was a contributing author to the Life and
Insurance Handbook. Mr. Dopheide retired in 1989 but he is an Emeritus
Member of the Advisory Committee of the University of Miami's Heckerling
Institute on Estate Planning and an Editorial Board member of the Estate
Planner's Quarterly. He also served as the Vice-Chairman of the Insurance
Committee of the American Bar Association's Section of Real Property, Probate
and Trust Law.
