Bessemer Trust Company, N.A.

Dear Fellow Designees:

I am so excited to have assumed the role of chair of the AEP® Designation Committee on December 1, 2016! As this adventure began, I took some time to review the many benefits that are available to active AEP® designees and estate planning council members. I hope you will do the same before we move too far into the new year! A great deal of information is contained within this newsletter and much more can be found on our website. Of course, our national office is always available for questions as well!

If you have not already done so, please take a moment to either download the new NAEPC mobile phone app or to update your current version, for iPhone users  or Android users. The app provides a great way to stay connected to other designees and councils while on-the-go, please make sure you are connected!

Please note that the yearly dues and recertification documents have been mailed and are requested back by Friday, April 22, 2016. Those who return a hard copy are asked to take special care to return both sides of the document, along with payment. Online renewal is also available after logging in to the national website.

Should you have comments or ideas throughout the year, please be sure to share them with me. Your input is valued and respected. Your referrals are also appreciated! Please share information about the designation program with qualified candidates through the year.

Julie Buschman

After reading, please share your comments within the AEP® LinkedIn Group. You are also welcome to share the white paper with colleagues!

Are you interested in having an original piece included in the Technical Corner? If so, please contact section editor, John T. Midgett, at john.midgett@mpapc.com.

This intermediate program will describe the characteristics of a family business, the goals of the founding family member, and the various strategies for passing the business down to the next generation or disposing of it outside the family, in some cases with examples. It will also discuss the business succession planning process and highlight difficult issues that can arise and ways to avoid or minimize problems.

Lou Mezzullo is a consulting partner with Withers Bergman LLP, practicing principally out of its Rancho Santa Fe, CA office. He is a former President of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, former chair of the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law, and former chair of the American College of Tax Counsel. Continuing Education Credit

Continuing education credit will be available at each webinar for Accredited Estate Planner® designees. In addition, a general certificate of completion will be made available for those professionals who feel the program satisfies their continuing education requirements and are able to self-file. It is the responsibility of the attendee to determine whether their state, discipline, or designation will allow one to self file for a distance-learning program. Councils may also file the program in their home state for programs offered in a group setting.

Registration Fees
  • $40 / Accredited Estate Planner® designee
  • $60 / member of an affiliated local estate planning council or at-large member of NAEPC

Yourefolio Inc.

Yourefolio is an advisor driven software focusing on estate and legacy planning. Your folio was designed to organize a client's estate and legacy planning to a complete level while creating a platform that provides them with instant access to their life's most important documents, information and instructions.

The software will assist you in providing a platform for your client's most important documents and information. As important as it is to provide that system for your clients, the system is available to share with those beneficiaries, family members, trustees and collaborating professionals.
