NAEPC Webinar: Tax Smart Charitable Giving, Especially with Retirement Assets
Presented by National Association of Estate Planners & Councils
Wednesday, August 13, 2025
3:00pm - 4:00pm ET
Speaker: Christopher R. Hoyt, JD, AEPĀ® (Distinguished)
In this intermediate program, Professor Hoyt will explain the changes that The One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 made to the tax laws governing charitable gifts, and their impact on gift-planning strategies. He will also review the strategies that became popular when the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act made it harder to itemize tax deductions, including "bunching" gifts and using donor advised funds. Finally he will review the highly-advantageous benefits from making qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from IRAs, including the ability of IRA donors to receive a charitable gift annuity in exchange for their IRA gift.

Christopher Hoyt is a Professor of Law at the University of Missouri (Kansas City) School of Law where he teaches courses in the area of federal income taxation, charitable organizations and retirement plans. Professor Hoyt has served as the Vice-Chair of the RPTE Charitable Group of the American Bar Association and he serves on the editorial board of Trusts and Estates magazine. He is an Academic Fellow at the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).
