John O’Grady is a Partner at McGuireWoods LLP. His practice concentrates on estate and gift taxation, generation-skipping transfer taxes, estate planning, estate administration, and fiduciary litigation. He is a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and past chair of the Virginia State Bar Trusts and Estates Section. He has served as an adjunct professor at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary where he taught estate planning and wealth transfers. He has also taught estate planning, and estate and gift taxation at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Howard M. Zaritsky is an attorney who consults exclusively with other estate planning professional on estate tax and estate planning issues. He has been a lecturer at most major tax and estate planning institutes, including the Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning, where he is a member of the advisory committee. He is the author or co-author of numerous articles and treatises, including Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers During Life and Tax Planning for Family Wealth Transfers at Death, both published by Thomson-Reuters/WG&L.
This intermediate – advanced presentation provides a brief discussion of the key legislation, cases, rulings and regulations of the past year relating to estate, gift, and generation-skipping taxes, and the income tax issues that most directly affect estate planning. The accompanying outline is over 150 pages and includes sample forms to illustrate some of the techniques discussed. Furthermore, we will identify available planning opportunities.
